Ms. Amy Gehling is the Le Mars Community
Schools’ 2024 Teacher of the Year and awarded the
annual Decades of Excellence Crystal Bell award.
“Ms. Gehling exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding educator:
dedication, passion, creativity, and compassion,” reads her nomination.
“Her patience, kindness, and genuine care for students’ well-being make
her not only an outstanding educator, but also a beloved mentor and role
model.”
Ms. Gehling has served as a 4th grade teacher at Kluckhohn Elementary
since joining the Le Mars Community School District twenty-one (21)
years ago. In addition, she has been active as a mentor teacher and a
model teacher through the district’s Teacher Leadership program. Ms. Gehling was
nominated for this award by Amber Christiansen, parent of one of Ms. Gehling’s
students.
The Decades of Excellence Crystal Bell award is co-sponsored by the LCSD Foundation
and the LCS Alumni Association. The award is presented annually to honor outstanding
teachers who have dedicated their careers to the education of our children. She was
honored at the Foundation Banquet in April 2024.
Distinguished educator and alumnus Jim Lorenzen
shares the importance of community partnership in
achieving educational excellence.
Carolyn Vance and Deb Ahlers present the
